I've used a couple of different blends on mine. WS provided the basis for the original section of the layout, using the fine gray blend.
On the temporary loops, I blended the WS stuff with some colored craft sand from Ben Franklin
I liked the size and shape, but the sand was a tad translucent.
I'll try to get a better picture when I get home... but this is a blend of whatever was left of the sand and WS mixture, plus a bag of some ground granite or limestone, or something or other, that I got from a sketchy vendor at a Timonium show a couple of years ago. The bag was unmarked. To the eye, it's difficult to distinguish from the original section, although the texture is better, and it's got better opacity than the sand. I've got more than enough of this stuff to finish the layout, and probably a few other ones, too.
