Huge Paper Waste from Wally

When I got my mail out of the box yesterday what a suprise. Not the usual two or sometimes politically correct one Wathers monthly catalog (flyer),but would you believe nine, yes 9 count em flyers. Their computer labling system had cranked out my address on each one,so it wasn't a case of someone ellse's being sent to me as there are no stick on lables. I'am sure I'am not the only one that has expierenced this from Wally, I could give the extra copies to members of the Wasatch N Scale club, but I'am pretty sure they all get their own copies. I will keep one for myself, then waste the postage to send the rest along with a scolding letter (note) back to Walthers in Milwaukee. Nate Goodman (Nato)."Who gets the same flyer online anyway".

Nate,
In that scolding letter you might ask them if we can develop an electronic opt-out, so that people getting the flyer electronically can get out of the print side distribution.  Saves paper, saves money for Wally, saves headaches for us.

Let me state first that I'am fully aware that Wathhers treats their Flyers like they are candy being given out to Sugar Junkies. Every hobby shop I have ever been in has had a huge stack on the counter to be given away for free. Now my tail continues, on Tuesday the day after I recieved Nine Walley Flyers in the mail I recieved one more making my total Ten in all. I kept two for my self and did send the others back on Wednesday, yes my note to Walthers did suggest an opt out,so we could only recieve the Flyer online if we wanted to. I do not even expect to get a reply back as I do not have their corporate address in Milwaukee, was that on Florest Ave? Just the P.O. Box number listed on the Flyer.                              Nate Goodman (Nato).

Nate:

The postal service doesn't like you.

PS

I would like the opt out as mine goes directly to the trash.

Very little N, the prices aren't good, and the shipping is high.

This reminds me of a time before I knew of the great Walthers catalog attack.

I ordered a fairly large order of stuff from them but had it shipped to my work because of problems getting stuff at the apartment I lived at.   I specifically stated on the order to NOT send any mail to this address and even provided my other address.   I think for the next 2 years I got a flyer about every other day (not exaggerating, by much anyway) sent to my office. (and to the other address)   I e-mail and called Walthers until I was blue in the face and finally gave up.   Everyone there then knew that I "played with trains" and it really became an issue.   I eventually got over it (mainly because I went to work elsewhere) but for many years I refused to buy Walthers items of any kind.  I will certainly never order directly from them ever again.
NOTE: I'm no longer active on this forum.   If you need to contact me, use the e-mail address (or visit the website link) attached to this username.  Thanks.

Ha ha.  Hey everybody, Doug plays with trains!

[That does sound really annoying though.]

Okay... so which is worse... receiving those flyers or receiving flyers that doesn't have diddly squat about N-scale?

Doug,

I can enjoy the image of your old workplace still getting those Walthers flyers long after anyone remembers who you were.  Maybe they converted one person to model railroading, eh?  PS- Enjoy your pancakes.

I once ordered something from Walthers and get the Flyer. It seems to follow me to my new address, so I suspect MR or another magazine or on line shop sells them their mailing addresses.

I wouldn't mind the electronic version at all.

I did notice that the modern roundhouses are on sale at 40% off, and I had removed my roundhouse on my circa 2005 layout, but could be convinced that it was merely reduced to three or six stalls for 40% off, so the flyer wasn't totally worthless to N scalers.
