Ahhhhh, thanks, I needed that.

The RF&P was a classy line that recognized the importance of preventative maintenance, which is how GP35s ended up on the point of a hot intermodal in the late 1980s.  Show me other lines that did that often.  And, you just have got to love the SW1200 on Flexicoils doing the same thing (see your first link).

Did you notice the baggage/steam generator car with the bent frame in the shot with the original AutoTrain  (see your third link)?  Good stuff.  Scary, but good stuff.  Those U36Bs had seen better days, and they weren't even that old yet!

In your fourth link, a prototype passenger train for small layouts.  ;)

Thanks,
Dave

Ed,

That last shot shows the red striped UPS trailers in service circa 1978.  Thanks!  That's exactly what I needed to know for pre-order.

I've been enjoying those submissions too, and thinking of Dave.

RailPics has been harvesting a bunch of good shots from the 60's through the 80's lately.

Nice shots. Wasn't expecting the switcher in a road freight.

I just looked there for BN ones and you're right about it.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Great RF&P actio.  Glad I got the chance to see it on the North end before all the mergers.  Sure do miss seeing the hump action at Potomat Yards going to and from work.
