Who made one a few years ago?  Can we see it again?

It was a Trainboard member if memory serves. There was talk of a Briggs/Kaslo style kit, but that never materialized due to the cost (north of $400 for a kit including mechinism).

The only one I have seen in N scale was done by Bill Denton using resin castings that are no longer available.

Can't, the server died!

In short it was an GP38 shell which I cut out a section of doors just infront of the radiators, swapped one of the roof panels for one off something else (GP40?) and mounted it on an RSD5 chassis which had a cut down fuel tank from an SD35 and new sideframes modifed from SD35 ones too.

Not if there were only ten of them used by three roads.  We've just recently reached the point were mass-produced RTR plastic models of limited exposure rolling stock are barely feasible to do.  Mass-produced models of motive power such as this are probably out of reach until RP technology is fine enough for N scale.

I agree Bryan. It was just wishful thinking and I couldn't find the proper smiley face icon to indicate that. It is interesting how much interest there continues to be in these engines. Drawings have been published in at least 3 different magazines (RMC, MR, and NSR) over the years. The shell is an ordinary kitbash, and the Atlas mechanism seems to work well. It seems like all that is really "needed" are the truck sideframes. Walkway railings might also be an issue, but many people have figured out how to do this.
