Ed,KATO is pronounced KAH-TOE.

Unless like 99% of Americans you butcher Japanese words.

I have called them on the phone, and they answer  KAH-TOE.

This question saw a lot of mileage on the A board. I have it from a very reliable source (a fellow who has spent time with Mr. Kato) that it's actually Kah-doe, with the "d" bordering on being a "t" but not quite as hard.

I guess I do.

But that's how I've always heard it since I was a kid.

In the East everything is sad as shortly as possible , we just called the ash part of a smoked joint ASH , never POTASH .

On the Kato, I'm pretty sure it is Kah-dtough.
Joy is Thai, so I am familiar with the complete inability for any Westerner to correctly pronounce anything in a East Asian language.
