Is it just the grain/weathering, or do those cars seems to be completely unlettered/unnumbered?

that is Eckington yard - i remember the freight house that was at the corner of Florida and New York.  it was owned by the Washington Terminal Company, a joint owned entity of the B&O and PB&W (PRR).

How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?

Huh?  This shot was taken south of the Capital because the Jefferson Building is to the right of the Capital in the shot, and the page says taken from Southeast.  Here's a neat site with historical maps of DC, including one from 1917:

It looks like this is the small yard near New Jersey Ave (just south of the current CSX main) in the 1917 map.  Cool picture!

i didn't realize you could zoom in on the picture - it wasn't looking right for Eckington, but that area changed many times in the early 20th century.  i stand corrected - it looks more like the area that is now over by HUD and l'Efant Plaza.  the curve is the key.  the telltales are interesting

I couldn't get the map link to work, but the Shorpy photo is great.

I have been thinking about doing a model (probably a diorama but maybe a module) of Virginia Tower in N Scale to display in my office since it is just across the street from where I work.

I think it would be more fun to do it just after the GG-1s arrived, so I could have an excuse to get some of them in N Scale.  So keep them photos coming.....
Thanks

Virginia Avenue.  I probably spent more time in that tower than any other back in the early to mid 70's when Mark Caplin was the tower operator.  Looked over my old photos and I can't believe I don't have any outside shots of the tower.  Here are some I've posted before shot from inside the tower.

I'm glad it's still standing.

Sorry no.  Those were taken during the 5 years I was stationed in the Pentagon back in the day.
