IM FP9/F9B Close Coupling

Just wondering what couplers would be used to close the gap on the IM FP9A and F9B units. That gap is pretty big!

Overall, they are very, very nice locomotives... beautiful actually. Hard to believe they share a pedigree with the Tunnel Motors. BTW, anyone else have B units arrive with a coupler box broken off?

A number of folks use the Red Caboose Unimates for this.

I have a set too, but I have not installed them yet since my layout is currently in limbo.

I wasn't even aware they were doing F-9's or FP-9's.  When did these come out?  Or do you mean FP-7 and F-7?

Huh.  I guess I never really paid attention.  I would have paid more if they were to have released just regular old F-9's.  I could use those to help complete my Northern Pacific roster.

What are the odds of them doing an F9A? Not too many roads opted for them outside of the passenger version, and that seems to have been popular largely in Canada.

Then again, with 100 F9A built, one never knows...

Maybe I'm slow but I seem to be missing an article and just seeing pictures with the occasional comment.

I modified the rear truck on one of my A units to truck mount the coupler, a'la Kato, and that seems to work well, but it was more effort than it was worth.  I've since turned to the unimate solution, screwing the short shank version to the mounting pad.

No camera, so no pictures...
