I was stopped by a Norfolk Southern train yesterday and lo and behold there was a Gulf, Mobile & Ohio covered hopper tagging along. It apparently still had the GMO reporting marks too. All I could see of the old lettering though was "gulf" and it was barely visible from all the rust. I didn't know any of these were still around. I've got to get me a good camera and take pictures of some of these old ones before they are all gone.

I've seen Southern, WP and MP stuff recently.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

I see Southern stuff all the time.  I can go down to the port and look at a good thirty some odd Southern and N&W cars.

I've handled some Milwaukee Road covered hoppers here recently, although they now carry ITLX reporting marks. I've thought if only I could reach the America's Resourceful Railroad sign.....

Two years ago yesterday, I caught this Western Maryland covered hopper, albeit with a CSX patch.

But the very next train had this dirty little C&O covered hopper with its original reporting marks!

These are nearing the end of their careers for sure, which will be sad because they are the last surviving examples of Norfolk Southern freight equipment in revenue service (many of the locomotives are still out there, though).

This is what they used to look like:
