AZL Freight Car Update

AZL has been very busy the past few months. It has been a while since I posted an AZL update on Railwire. Iif you don't follow the Z forums, you may be surprised what is happening in the Z community. American Z Line has been busy! Today, AZL announced that their 23,000 gallon funnel flow tank cars will be released in November. The first release is CELX.



AZL has release 89' bi-level autoracks. The first two releases have been SP and UP. These cars are proving to be extremely popular and both runs were sold out before they were even shipped to dealers. AZL is planning a new autorack release every month through February.



Another all new body style from AZL is their ACF 4-Bay covered hoppers. To date, these have been released in FPCX and D&RGW. Again, these cars are very popular and bringing new options to Z scale layouts.



Finally, AZL's ACF 3-Bays continue to be released. The final car from the first series is the SOO LINE version. These cars are available in BN, BNSF, SOO, SOO/CP, UP and WP road names.



This is a very exciting time for the Z community. The wealth of rolling stock we have available to us is increasing at a great rate. It is truly a fun time to be in Z!

Is the tanker riding on new, 36" wheels?  It looks excellent - nice fine detail.

Yes, these are the new updated AZL wheel sets. The new profile is much nicer than the previous ones. It is almost hard to believe that this car is Z scale!

I thought I would share the latest from AZL. Again Z scale is growing with more new choices! In the past month, AZL has released 6 new items. Let start with a new tank car. This time it is a UTLX 23,000 gallon funnel flow. Everyone has been waiting for the first black tank car from AZL!



Next AZL has come out with two new ACF 4-Bay covered hoppers. These are CSX and Du Pont.





AZL also has released an all new Bethgon Coal Porter in the BNSF swoosh scheme.



Last but far from least, AZL has announced an all new body style! These are 4,750 CuFt PS2-cd covered hoppers. These are the 7th freight car from AZL and the fifth all new car from them this year. It is amazing if you think about it. The first two roads are UP and CNW.





There is no doubt Z scale is really maturing and coming to age. There are real options for model railroaders, and more are coming!

Rob, these are really nice, a sure sign Z is being taken seriously.

David so true. For too long we have seen Z 'looked down upon' due to our limited selection and options. That is all changing. It is fun to see our friends in the other scales find their favorite road, locomotive, or freight car is not available in Z. What is more fun for someone in my position is to see the variety of rolling stock and roadnames on Z layouts. Z has moved forward more in the past two years than it has in the last 30. It is amazing to think about.

They are very nice models -- a boon to Z -- though I keep tripping up on the loops atop the handrail posts.

And if so, is the brake wheel at the wrong end (of Tom's car) or can't you tell by the ladder/handrail offset?
