Another flag falls to the hard economic times . . .

It was sad enough to see Shaun take down the old double deck layout.  Now he's folding completely.  Here's hoping this isn't a trend that will continue.

I visited the NMRA show in Ft Wayne, IN this weekend and heard similar stories from several people. Lots of people were laid off or looking for full time work. Although Wash DC has been spared most of the effects of recession, I think the impact is a lot worse in the rest of the country.

The FT Wayne folks put on a good show. Lots of hands on clinics.

Me personally I would not tear a layout down because of a loss of job or hard times etc if I was not moving...There are always things that you can do on it while money is tight, and when things get back to "normal" for you, its easier to get going again.

In this particular case, the guy says on the linked web site that he is moving, and will be renting for a time, so the layout's going into storage. "Hopefully we’ll see each other in the future on a new Elmwood Subdivision."

I wouldn't describe that giving up, just going on hiatus for a while.

we are currently looking to move, but i really don't know if it's a smart move at the moment.  i have stopped progress on the layout, and have been stalling on taking it apart and moving it to the shed for storage.  i really want to move, but i'm not sure i want the burden of an increased mortgage right now. 

the smart move might be to hold up for another year.  i'll have to really talk to my wife about this, but with the way the market is right now by us, we aren't finding anything much better than what we have right now.  must have room for a 24x18 layout otherwise, it's not a smart move.  the L&HR should look good in that kind of space, no?
