I sent them a question concerning the PRR P70 cars they said they were going to do several years back and got this in reply.

Hello Robert,

PRR P70s are still on the books, in fact i just received a bunch a
photos of the underframe detail - a hard find.  The clerestory
baggage-express cars and baggage-mail cars will be coming out before
any new coaches.  While PRR is indeed a popular railroad, I am a little
more cautious in our economic down turn for a one railroad prototype.

A question for you if you don't mind, which PRR P70s would be a must
for you?

1)  P70FBR both arched roof and clerestory   1951 through PennCentral
2)  P70R clerestory ("R" is for air conditioning)  about 1935 to end of
PRR
3)  P70 cafe car

If you want any of these I would go to their site and tell them you preference.  I would like the P70FBR followed by thecafe car.  What do you think?

Are they doing a PRR baggage car?
                                                                                                                 
I too would agree, the P70FBR, then the cafe, then P70R. I'll go a cast a vote for the cause.

I shot these many moons ago in Lancaster, but I think they're NYC cars...

in fact... A NYC baggage car with door arrangements "on the end" still exists in Bellvue, Ohio @ the Mad River... not sure of the original purpose for the doors... but i beleive it was for automobile transportation... car is still in good shape... if you're in the market for a NYC baggage car that is :)

On head end cars like these the end doors would be found on horse-express cars, or cars used to transport scenery for plays or other performances.

To corroborate Skibbe, I had heard that the open ends were for the transport of Broadway traveling productions...

Your correct Lee.  The PRR, NYC and other Eastern roads used them to haul theater props and race horses to various tracks.  The PRR actually named their cars.  The theater cars were named for famous actors or Shakespear plays.  The horse cars were named for various racing establishments.  AT&SF also used these in Southern California to haul horses to various tracks.  Hoses weren't the only thing hauled.  Prized cattle, sheep, etc would sometimes be shipped in these cars to various auction sites.  Didn't want them shipped in a standard stock car with low life cattle.  Attendants would travel with these animals attending to their every need.
