was messing around with industry locations in the amalgamated town

in the foreground is Hardin Lumber which had a coal pier, then, on the left will be the Limecrest facility (many covered hoppers), then is the Harris Pine Mill - they made furniture from western pine.

the train on the main has 15 cars (mostly 40') and is heading east toward Warwick, NY.  the state line is just around the next bend.



the line in the back will be hidden with an 8" backdrop.

visible minimum is 16" - most will be 18" and hidden is 15" - i'm planning for 87' trailer flats

the track will head to the left of the container and then curve to the right and end up where the rail cutters are on the grade.

making some more progress...



getting the majority of the mainline and industries laid out.  i have 11 industries that can handle a total of 30 cars.  not bad.  here's an overview from the family room.



and here's the Sterling Hill zinc mine - you can see the approach on the previous picture - the grades will not be that steep, the boards are warped and i put the bow facing up.  i'm looking at having 3 tracks at the mine - a round around and the load out.

i was thinking of starting with the Glacier Gravel kit

did some more work on the laying out of things.  i'm feeling really positive right now.  i had seemed to have painted myself into a corner with regard to trying to maintain a prototype track arrangement, but i finally was able to overcome that and just work with what i have.  as long as i keep things in the correct sequence and direction, i'm happy.

looking at 12 sidings for a total for 33 cars.  add in the 4 track yard and engine servicing at Warwick, and i think the layout has a ton of potential for some fun operating sessions. the plan is to be able to have the line be run by a single operator (me) or as many as three (i have two sons).  two road crews and one working the yard at Warwick.

i'm hoping to have the staging yard in place in the next week or so - i have to pick up a number of turnouts and track first.
