--------------------Original Post--------------------

I was taking some photos today for the Model Railroader Photo Contest (none of them turned out well enough to have a chance, but I can take a shot at Trackside Photos...) and I thought I'd share some of the best with you. Please excuse Photobucket's compression! When you view the actual photo, it's actually crisp and you can tell that it's actually in focus!  ::)

West Canaan, NH.

Also West Canaan. I need to replace that bridge stand-in in the background...

Again, West Canaan (by the way, I just finished the scenery here, so this was the only town I photographed!). The crossing lights have a switch I installed in the circuit that holds one light steady - solving the problem of both lights lit up from a long exposure (because of the high aperture required for high depth of field) that so many modelers have!

This entire scene was built on a very tight budget - used and inexpensive structures and homemade scenery materials are the norm on my layout...someday they'll get replaced, but for now I try to detail and weather them the best I can and live with the shortcomings - I hope you all understand.

Thanks!

Here's a video showing the operating crossing lights...as well as some train action! Includes dubbed audio.

Enjoy!

Every time I see the subject line about the "White River Southern," I do a double-take (I built the White River and Northern: http://whiteriverandnorthern.net/ ).

You've captured a definite New England feel in your scenes. Nice work--keep posting!

Thanks for the kind words, David! I'll be sure to keep posting!

I'm actually used to similar railroad names - In addition to my White River Southern Railroad, there is also Doug Whitman's White River Southern Railroad, and of course your White River & Northern, which I've been following for some time now.

That road crossing looks pretty bumpy but the scenery is pretty nice.

Tyler... STYRENE! We can't have GP15s rolling over roads like that! :)

Thanks all!

I've tried styrene roads, and couldn't get them to look right. This was the first road I built with plaster, and I think it despite the bumps it worked pretty well for a 1st attempt. They do require some sanding though.

Nice shots Tyler!!

So is that's the "secret engine" you were talking about earlier?

I'd have to agree about the roads though, I think a truck with a lift kit would have issues with that stuff  ;)

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

It's a possibility, but note that GP15 is plural! ;)

Here's a new shot from West Canaan.

The conductor of LEWC gives train WJCD a roll-by inspection as it passes on the main. Again - excuse the Photobucket compression. I'd upload them larger but my free account is over half full and I want to conserve space...640 by 480 is plenty large enough for me in most cases.
