Nice technique that's pretty easy to pull off and so far seems to afford a nice base to start more agressive weathering.  I put aside my West Coast Bias when I came across a photo of an ex PC or NYC boxcar overpainted a number of times and ending up with CR markings in block out areas.  I'll post a shot of the proto later.

That's a safer and interesting way to get that effect. Easy to un-screwup at that step . I never thought of taking advantage of the translucent properties of the top coat . Thanks for that tip .

Why not, MT box cars aren't proto height anyway, once you shave down the flanges, right?
