Perhaps those of us on the Railwire that would like to see some action by GHQ should join the chorus. Unlike the Kato Mikado, Bachmann seems to keep its Consolidations in stock on a regular basis.

I agree.  Would love one.  One has to get over the valve gear on the Spectrum engine being off for an H, but for a guy like me that's no problem.

It would have to allow some room for a decoder for me to be interested (even if I need to do a little Dremeling).

Just how far off is the wheelbase of the spectrum from the H8/9 class engines? Enough to really look wrong? That Spectrum is a pretty big 2-8-0...
Is the Kato mikado valve gear closer? Not that I think I'd worry about it either. I've long since stopped counting rivets on N scale steam; I'll take a good running "bird in the hand" that's close & be happy to have it...

While the PRR L1s Mikados were built with alligator crossheads, all were changed to Laird type in the 1920's. The Kato Mike has alligator crossheads and I have not seen one complaint in all the years the GHQ kit has been out there. At least the crossheads are right on the Bachmann Consolidation for PRR H classes. The Valve gear is OK, it's the valve gear hangar that is different. So is the valve gear hangar on the Mikado.

Honestly I haven't measured the wheelbase or anything for the same reason.  I'm just fine with the 90% solution if it's based on a very good mechanism.

I mainly asked because of the comment on the "A" forum that the wheelbase was 2-2.5 feet short and would mess up the looks.
Since then, I've dug out one of my books that says the H8/9/10 driver wheelbase was 17' & a half-inch. The spectrum actually measures a few inches shy of 18 feet. I got no problem with that in N scale...
