Could Kato be able to maintain its prices because they are vertically integrated?  They control the whole process from design to manufacture to distribution...  Atlas is beholden to the Chinese factory's schedule and costs.

Price difference between Kato and Atlas. Kato does a model in BNSF and UP; very predictable.
Atlas also does BNSF and UP plus some smaller companies that won't sell in huge amounts. So you UP and BNSF guys have to pay a little bit more so that we Califronia Northern (GP 15) also can a factory painted model.

Another difference between Kato and Atlas is time from announcement to shelf. The new Kato business model puts the product out a month after announement.

6 month's? They are trying to guess farther out. Remember, the date they target is after they have gotten a production slot at the factory. They've probably had this one ready for productuion for at least the last 4-6 months waiting for production, materials and maybe cash.

But, the Magor C&O cabooses were shipped on November 23rd, so there are others feeling joyful emotions right now. It's only been recently that Atlas posted the Container Shipping Date prior to the actual date. Having been in the transportation business, that's sticking your neck out. I can think of 100 minor things that could keep that particular container off that vessel!

I agree!  The odd thing is that the date WAS October 20th, I think - I thought it was "container shippED" as in "past event".

Could be they were concerned the B40's and C40's were arriving too close? Production problem???  Who knows...
