If your Geeps are older than the latest release, you can't use the drop in decoder...

I'll still check later today.  The DN163A2 has slots which will allow you to slide the motor contact through the decoder.  I always solder mine to ensure a good connection.

Sorry for the delay,  I took one of my GP9s apart just to be 100% sure.  It takes the DN163A2.

The guy in our club who's the DCC guru says sometimes decoders "get stupid" like our computers. Well, you can't just unplug the decoders for ten minutes and the thing get it's mind back, sometimes you need to remove the decoder and using a jumper wire short the two contact points together, erasing the memory, re-install it and re-program it and it will magically work, when all else fails. I've had a TV and a DVD player and a video camera all get stupid. Remove the power, wait a few minutes, power them back up and they work. During WWII, they called them "Gremlins". ???

I'm positive that some "inatimate objects" have a life of their own. Look at Allen wrenches...they grow legs and walk-off. So do pens. And screwdrivers, and drill bits and taps. Electronics have minds that don't work when we want them to. And major appliances fix themsevles when you call the repairman out. 'Til he leaves, of course. "Stuff" is out to get us! :-[ ::)

The DN163A2 is the way to go for Atlas Geep7 and 9's. I installed them in my new run Western Pacific GP7's and they work just fine. No problems so far.

The Digitrax DN163A2 fits the following Decoder Ready locomotives from Atlas:

GP7, GP9, GP30, GP35, SD9, and will fit the GP15 when released.
