Asa Packer

The ghost of Otto Kuhler showed up again recently. He said he was happy with my Lehigh Valley RR "Black Diamond" streamstyled car. He flattered me, thus I knew he wanted something: He told me that the "Black Diamond" wasn't his preferred design. Few years earlier he has made a striking orange and black livery for the Lehigh Valley "Asa Packer" train (Packer was a local railroad and coal tycoon). But the Lehigh Valley RR got cold feet and abandoned the orange for red/black when the "Black Diamond" was restyled. Otto Kuhler liked orange, and me too.

I couldn't refuse to color print this livery on one of these LV 900 series cars. The livery suits them well. Those cars had no skirts, unlike the "Black Diamond" cars. Few years later, after WWII, all were painted plain red anyway.

I admit I had already made an attempt a few years ago for my own use, paint striping by hand (last picture). Obviously, at the time, I failed miserably to make the aluminium window inserts, came a long way since  ;)

(All those versions will be available up from this weekend in my store)
