Or that it should look like its been through hell, and barely working?
 

Oh and covered in CARC paint to the point where its impossible to disassemble without chipping away paint.

The Bucyrus kit got me rolling again so I picked up some scrap decals at the LHS to add an IS to the aggregate barge and weathered it up, added gravel and granite loads, and set it in its channel spot.







Moved the dock office, and added some coal (for the engine house) granite and gravel aggregate piles, and numbered the Bucyrus as #3

Big windows necessitate some type of interior, especially if they’re eventually going to be able to be lit.
Starting with the floor for the drive-in and the service station (will be a Sinclair)
  Printed a couple of checkerboard patterns on regular paper, cut them to fit, then applied them with Elmers glue.

I did a lousy job with the brass caboose, at least for close up photography.


Too impatient to do things the right way..  lots of Mod Podge smudges because I tried to reassemble before I should have.

The dappled finish, however, gives the old girl a nice patina.  The story is that this cabin car is a PRR hand me down after being damaged in a wreck.  Hence the bendy grip rails.  After being rehabbed in the Laurel Valley back shops, it was painted hastily with a roller, and after a few months of service, now looks like this.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I hate rigging. Finished up the first prototype print of the Bucyrus bucket shovel. Did I mention how much I hate rigging?

Need to pick up some black number decals for the four additional units still to be built.

Rigging is a pain. Getting thread to be taut between contact points is no fun. I've used thin brass rod which looks OK if it's got ends that can be glued down, but  used as a single line from boom to bucket, hook, or electromagnet it becomes a jiggling blur if you bump the layout.

while this might not seem like much, for me this is massive.  i cleared off some space on the workbench and setup an inglenook to scratch the JRFTM itch as i have no layout at the moment.  this has inspired me to revisit my failed Crestwood project.

The layout tour went great today.  Had 40 people come and look at the layout.  Heard a lot of positive comments about what could be accomplished in N Scale.  A few weeks back John posted a Youtube video from N Scale Dystopia.  The modeler's name is Denny and he stopped by and we had an interesting discussion about his experiences.  I'm looking forward to seeing how his new layout progresses. =

Me too! I really like the new perspective he's bringing to stuff.

Wouldn't be surprised as the main method of getting cabins on trains in the big yards was to throw them down a hill as the train went by and hope they had enough momentum to catch and couple.
