Is the hood on the GP35 overly wide like the GP30?  How wide is the mechanism?

Yes (fat hood). Same mechanism as the GP30. I don't have the measurements.

Many, many years ago, I tried to make a correct narrow hood version.  The mechanism came out great but the shell was too fragile.  I never finished it.
