Z scale ore cars and mining / gasoline powered engines?

Looking for Z scale ore cars (rolling stock) as well as an engine in the style of the Plymouth BL4 for my Death Valley Railroad mine layout.

Originally was going to just do static display for the ore cars, but now thinking making them an active part of the layout would be super cool!

Any pointers or suggestions? I have a 3D printer and am willing to learn, but also want to learn about what's out there commercially.

I know there were one or two sellers on shapeways who offered Z scale ore cars. I know, that doesn't help much, but maybe they can be found elsewhere.

Andy, from the previous thread about your Death Valley Railroad, I was under the impression it was N scale, not Z.  Are you intending the Z scale cars as stand ins for Nn3 (which runs on Z scale track,  unless one does a LOT of work to make a scale 3' track and scatchbuilds everything).

If indeed that's what you are up to, you may be able to find Nn3 items to meet your needs (and which will look better in an N scale environment).  For instance, here is a little Plymouth 20-ton loco for use with a couple of the tiny chassis that are out there-

And here is a small hopper used on a narrow gauge to haul iron ore-

Now, I've never dealt with the company selling these items, so I can't say how they are to deal with- if interested you might want to check with them on what is in stock and shipping and such.  They do have good descriptions, and details on drives and other additional parts needed to complete their kits- which for me is a good sign.

Thank you for the reply! Maybe I should have been a bit clearer in my posts. I am doing the main DVRR in N scale / N gauge. The railways that ran to the mines was a "baby gauge" 24" gauge line, and I'm wanting to model that part of the mine operation in Z scale since it's much more appropriate size.

I'll check those links out and add them to my list of what to be looking for.

Although they are N-Scale, Wild West Scale Model Builders produces some high quality 3D Resin Printed 18" Gauge Ore Car Kits.

Maybe you can use or modify the aforementioned models, or, see if you can get Mike to produce them in Z-Scale.

Wild West Scale Model Builders also produces a fine line of laser cut wood Freelance and Prototype Structure Kits that were inspired by the diverse architectural and vernacular styles of the Colorado Narrow Gauge region.

I could possibly design/3D print one to fit around this.. http://www.zscalemonster.com/showcase/0018.jpg  I have one of these chassis and was going to experiment with it.

I would need decent reference material especially diagrams/dimensional drawings?

Edit:  Is this the same loco as EBT M5A ?
