Bachmann N Scale Locomotives Decoder Factory Reset

I have three Bachmann RS3s - all identical down to the engine number.  One operates in DCC and DC equally well.  The other 2 operate fine in DC mode and not at all in DCC mode.  Does anyone know the CV number and value for the Factory Reset?

Also have an S4 (much later model that the RS3s) that is a no-go in DCC.  Would it be different?

Are you sure the models in question actually have decoder installed?

Are those models with sound or just a basic motor control decoders?
I believe that standard write CV8 with a value of 8 is needed for a reset.
The decoder manual might be included  with the paperwork inside the jewel box, and it is also available online at  the Bachmann website.
