My Old and Weary arrived to-day. This has been snakebitten. I ordered from a well known website that once was known for ood prices and has changed hands at least twice. It was a real hassle because they recently made some changes (or so the guy who called me told me) and there have been problems. It took over two weeks to get it here, as opposed to another new product ordered from a different web site that is well known, which took three days.
The things was sitting in its box funny. I took it out, put it onto the track and applied current. It took right off then froze after about eighteen inches on straight and level. I applied a little more currnent. It took off, again. I ran it in each direction about fifteen minutes at fifty SMPH. I then started to back off the throttle. After another fifteen minutes in each direction, I tried to get it to creep. It did so haltingly, occasionally locking up or losing contact.
I got the non-DCC version. I have only one other non-DCC BLI locomotive, a USRA heavy pacific. It runs smoothly throughout the speed ranges and only required fifteen minutes in each direction to run in the thing. To state that I am disappointed is to understate the case.
Has anyone else had a similar problem with the non-DCC versions of this thing? Does it require extensive break-in? It is not making excessive noise. At anything above twenty SMPH, it is alright. The more that you drop the speed, the more halting it becomes.
