Atlas N FA dead

Just received my N scale Atlas FA unit. Has an ESU decoder and not a thing works. I have plenty of ESU locos along with Soundtraxx but this one does nothing. Tried resetting and all the usual things to get one going.   Any ideas before I ship it back ?

No matter what I try it always goes to "Cannot read CV".

Not sure how you are trying to read the CVs, but wondering if it is the loco or the track connection. Have you tried reading another, known good loco the same way?

Have you tried reading the CVs on the programming track AND the mainline?
I had a Broadway Ltd diesel with sound that was dead, tried everything on the programming track, couldn't read any CV.  Put it on the mainline and could re set it back to factory default, runs fine now.

If it is a brand new loco just return it. No need to waste time screwing around with it and possibly void warranty.

I've tried everything I know, hence asking you guys but been there done all that.  Thanks for your input. I'll return it.  I called Trainworld and they said to talk with their ESU tech. He said to call Atlas. I said I'm returning it, not my problem.   Besides, the amount of doe I spent in the past ten years there and only had to return a Bachmann EM-1 when they first came out, not too bad.      BTW, the EM-1 is an excellent runner, have four.

I purchased a new Atlas ESU decoder equipped loco a few years ago and same issue, couldn’t get anything to work, even with my ESU Lokprogrammer. Contacted them, they told me to ship it back, and they replaced the decoder and it was fine afterwards.
Don’t remember how long turnaround took but it wasn’t bad.
Not a knock on Atlas at all, these things slip through once in a while with every mfg.
