Sound decoders are DCC compliant and will work with any command station. Most American models have the bell sound controlled by F1 and horn F2 button (on any handheld throttle.) F8 button will control the prime mower sound or sometimes is a mute button. Other sound effects are usually activated by other function buttons on the throttle. No programming is needed. Usually factory equipped models have instructions which show you which sound effects are assigned to which function buttons on your throttle.
Of course, on most decoders those effects could be remapped to other function buttons, but that is not usually needed.
