Yeah, unless one tries to match the paint to a piece of 1:1 rolling stock sitting in front of ones eyes, matching paint (for the above mentioned reasons) is pretty much impossible. Well, unless you are matching the paint to a color photograph you're are viewing in-person, which in itself is very likely inaccurate. Then there is the "scale effect" some modelers utilize on their models (because looking at a tiny model is like looking at the 1:1 object from a distance, where things like atmospheric haze wash out the actual color). Then as you are well aware, even different paint manufacturers have slightly differing shades of the same color.
So use a color which you find works the best for you, then is somebody questions your choice, tell them to go pound sand.
