Honestly I’m more excited about the new drivetrain versus the fans. I think they would be great for a switching layout, where you’re running slower and especially when paired with a protothrottle. But the big thing here is, if the drivetrain works well, there’s suddenly so much more room above the drivetrain for electronics and speakers. You could fit such a big speaker now, or maybe a rechargeable battery to no longer even need track power, or maybe even both.
I’m still debating whether to get a UP Geep or not. They haven’t really sold off the GP40’s the same way as the GP15’s and 38-2’s to shortlines, but I could be convinced some time to build a UP branch set in the upper Midwest. Ultimately though, I’m hopeful they’ll do a run of DME/ICE as a GP40-2, so I can patch it as a lease unit.
