Bachmann N scale Acela set improvements

I followed the instructions in Ron Bearden's article published in the N-Scale March/April 2007 issue and eliminated all derailment problems I was having with the train. However,  dcc motor operation/control is still pretty poor. Has anyone replaced the train's decoder and/or motor or made any other modifications to improve operations? If so, please share details.

I'm glad the article helped.

I no longer have the set, but if I did, I would be trying to replace the motor and install a modern coreless motor.

. . . and replace the Bachmann low-end decoder with something like ESU or ZIMO.
