MT coil-elliptic trucks w center bolster (no couplers)

It seems that you can get MT trucks with a centered bolster hole, and they're all sans-couplers (which is fine, i'm bodymounting anyway).  The exception seems to be coil-elliptic trucks, which i have not been able to locate without couplers.  did mt ever make them without couplers?

None of the legacy truck frames are available with a centered bolster hole and no coupler arm.  All of those holes are offset.  If you want a true centered bolster hole, you have to get the truck with the medium-extended coupler (originally created for the B-end of the 50' drop-end gondolas) and cut the arm off.

The Coil-Elliptic truck frame is available commercially in black with the medium-extended coupler arm, part# 003.02.072.  That is what you need.

I just bought a couple pairs of medium extension trucks with the intention of cutting off the couplers. Since then I've been wondering if MTL would sell just the molding for the truck frames if one were to ask. Then cut the coupler box off and add metal wheels. But I have no idea if they would be willing to do that.

i only needed one pair and so i've used that as an excuse to buy more trains (with the trucks as part of the order).

They would as an OEM part to manufacturers, but I’m not sure if they would to consumers — although they have sold component parts in the past. I am remembering that they will, as long as those components are in stock (OEM parts are made-to-order). You should ask, the worst they can say is “no” which still leaves you with the option of purchasing the stock medium-extended trucks as an option.
