Look at the bottom of the fuel tank. If it has holes in it, cover with a piece of tape. Should improve the sound 10 fold.

There are no holes in the fuel tank. The sound (at least to my ear) is as good as anything else out there in N scale.

I'm surprised at the lack of conversation re the new Atlas U33/36B loco. I mean, most new locos seem to achieve at least 10 pages of chatter on TRW within days of their release, no?

Anyway, performance-wise I think this one is a notch above some of Atlas's other recent loco releases (I'm talking to you SD45).

Not the new U36B, but not long ago I purchased one of the latest run B36-7 locomotives, first new Atlas locomotive purchased in a looooong time. The only reason being that I have too many locomotives already. But, this was at an unbelievable price so I couldn't pass it up. It's fantastic. DCC ready, runs great. Fit and finish, paint and details are perfect. I was so thrilled that I used A birthday gift card to buy a latest run GP38. It also ran well but the grease from the trucks was oozing out the bottom so I took it apart to remove all the excess. Also I believe it's the front truck that bottoms out on passing through a switch and the front coupler is just a tad low, I'm sure it's all fixable and still glad I got it, but I heard of others having issues like mine. Just wonder if it's from a different factory?

I might get booed off the stage for saying this but didn't Bachmann make a specific car sold in its Auto Train sets that was the original auto rack? I know it doesn't look very prototypical, but it could be a starting point? Or pick up one of MTH's O scale cars and shrinkray it?

Yes, the Bachmann Stock Number 5650 Auto-Train 85’ Double Deck Auto Transporter Cars which were manufactured from around 1976 - 1981.

For some reason or another, when compared to the Stock Number 5652 Auto-Train 85’ Full Dome Passenger Cars, far fewer Auto Transporter Cars were eventually released.

For some reason or another, when compared to the Stock Number 5652 Auto-Train 85’ Full Dome Passenger Cars, far fewer Auto Transporter Cars were eventually released.

Maybe because it had the wrong trucks.

This one has the right trucks.  The one in the back is Bachmann.
