Atlas turntable alteration options?

Has anyone ever tried tried sinking the pit of an Atlas turntable? I mean, building a bridge and pit sides over the flush pit section to sink the mechanism? I've seen it done. Can't remember where tho.

Look for appropriately sized embroidery hoops to build the pit.

If you don't build a false floor over it, the entire pit will appear to revolve with the "bridge"...
But a bit of clever surgery with a carefully wielded Dremel tool may allow you to remove the unwanted spinny bits...
