Interesting.
However I noted that our own Chris, shows a video in https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=56358.msg776008#msg776008  where he states that he uses (body mounted) MTL 1015 couplers in his models which run problem-free on 5" radius curves. Even MTL couplers have plenty of slop. Boxing glove couplers are so "Bachmann"! Just sayin' . . .

As the Railwire motto goes "Better modeling through peer pressure". 

Ok, now I understand. In my world, there are two types of couplers; Micro-Trains True Scale and Everything Else. I thought you wanted me to use True Scale, which I know are too tight. But now I see that there are gradients of Everything Else. I will attempt to standardize the small micro layout fleet to the “standard” N scale Micro-Trains coupler. We’ll see what we can do.

The newest addition to the fleet: a Rapido GP38 decorated for the Aberdeen, Carolina & Western Ry.  Come to HO scale, fellas!  Sure, we’ve had working walkway and ground lights from the factory in HO scale for a while, but now we’ve now got powered control stands!



This Geep will be assigned to severe service with the 4% grade out of Aberdeen.  At least now I can keep an eye on the ammeter.

@petesky @Kentuckian Y'know, if 1015's work okay on small radii, then maybe 903's (Z-scale & Nn3) might work too.  Might be worth a try 'cause they look pretty damned nice compared next to a "standard" MTL N-scale coupler just because of the size difference.  I've used 'em for years, replacing most of my "normal" MTL N-scale couplers with 'em without any problems (other than they don't fit on some cars and engines, and have "slinky effect").  Plus, they're fully compatible with MTL N-scale couplers so no transition car is necessary.

Been learning about the laser, alignment, correct focal length, power/speed ratios. A lot to develop and there is nothing out of the box with this new item. However, I did make significant progress where I was able to cut a sample for items I need to complete kits.

I've used body-mounted MT 903s on 50 ft cars and 10 inch radius curves.  They were Nn3, but standard-gauge width, and work fine.
