Makes me want to drive out to Haines and get a steak at the Haines Steak House.
If anyone ever finds themselves in northeast Oregon driving I84, it's a quick detour off to get to Haines, about 15 miles north of Baker City on Route 30, and the place is worth the trip - both the food and the ambiance - great steaks and sides and salad bar. https://hainessteakhouse.com/  And the UP mainline is right across the street from its porch.

So, I’ve been playing around with another method of modeling Sage brush. I think it’s much better than my first attempt. Pictures show the materials used, I just broke up the super turf, dipped it in some white glue, then rolled it in the super leaf material. Feedback is welcome!

Everything else on your scenery is so realistically shaded, that sagebrush stands out like a sore thumb for the tint. Too bright a green, IMHO. I doesn't look to match the colors in the proto photo.

How big is your layout? Any towns or switching locations, or is it all mainline running?

The layout lighting does make the color “pop” a little too much. I’ll check around on the scenic express website and see if they have a superleaf color that’s a bit toned down.

The main layout is roughly 6’x9.5’ and Pratum Co-op in Madras will be represented on this part of it (spots for covered hoppers). I will be building an “L” shaped extension at Madras in the next phase to model the Madras industrial district. Best I can tell from my research, these are the current online rail served customers on the prototype; Brightwood-multiple plants, Albina Asphalt, Ferrellgas Propane, Wilbur Ellis, and a team track that’s usually full of center beams. Madras Farms has a spur, but I’m not sure if they are an active shipper (could use modeling license here). The Brightwood plants seem to get centerbeams in and out with an occasional tank car. It looks like SPI ships rough lumber in and Brightwood finishes it, then ships it out again on centerbeams. I may use some modeling license here and have them ship out using the occasional high cube as well as ship woodchips out by rail (it looks like it may be all by truck). I was up there in July, but it seemed most of the state was burning so excuse the Smokey photos!

The industrial district will have ME code 55 and code 40 track with Atlas Code 55 turnouts. This section will live on as part of the “Big Layout” I'll build when I retire. I’m just hoping ME will produce the code 55 concrete tie flex track again!! I have about 21 feet of it, but will need a whole lot more for the next layout.

I think the last picture with the center beams was actually at the Brightwood plant in Culver….
