Hi Craig,

I’ve ‘Canadian Pacificized’ a number of a number of Kato FP7’s and given up on painting the grills to look better than “silver painted plastic grills”. I paint mine black and add Plano Models etched stainless grills - purchase E unit or F7B grills and cut them down to the correct length as the F7a grills are too short. Incidentally, I also really like to add freestanding wire handrails, appropriately painted…

I love free standing handrails too but Emerson wasn’t interested in that. This started out as hey could you paint this for me….  I added all the extra stuff, haha. I couldn’t resist. Both of my FP locos that I built are Kaslo/Central Hobbies resin kits and so came with beautiful frets of etched parts including grills. 

Great idea about B or E unit grills. It never occurred to me that they would be available for a larger loco, or even that the B units’ grills are longer. Of course they are!!!  Sheesh. Great idea!
