I finally got around to painting a bunch of Conrail H1K hoppers. These are similar to the MTL Ortner hoppers but have a ladder on the A end and a self-opening door mechanism underneath. Glidden Cool Gray in a spay can is a close match to the light gray of these cars. I still have to weather the interior of the cars as they get pretty beat up in stone service.

Edit: I also finished my windowless N11 caboose using Atlas caboose trucks, MTL couplers, and CMR decals.

Mostly done with the tunnels into North Staging, more scenery stuff to do and plant trees and bushes, also more portal painting and weathering.

Well, the foreground is blurry but it is just painted sheet cork, it will get air brushed with rr tie brown when I paint the track and then some sort of cinders/gravel/dirt.

After finishing the Lake Cowichan rebuild, I turned my attention to the other end of the Lake Cowichan sub, where a wonky turnout had kept eastbound trains off the north track of the Hayward wye, seriously impeding operations.  A few evenings ago, Tim (BCR 570) came over to help install a new turnout, and I have since re-laid the tacks through the wye.

With an invitational ops meet coming up in few weeks, I am hosting a couple of ops sessions to make sure everything is up and running properly for our guests.  Yesterday a crew gathered to put the new Hayward wye to the test and make sure everything else is running well.  For once, the layout behaved itself!

Here, Tim brings an empty work train (with two of his BCR MLW units), off the Lake Cowichan sub through the newly-repaired wye.


Then the southbound Nitinat Logger ran through Hayward, past the empty ballast hoppers.


Later, no 51, the northbound freight, left Victoria.

I've always liked this 2nd photo.  At the time, Kidd represented the newest and most powerful DD's in the Navy.  But beside her is USS Mullinnix, at the time, one of the oldest and the last all gun DD in the fleet.

After this shot, the America put on the brakes, turned into the wind and recovered its planes.

That looks GREAT! I've always wanted to build the NWP Santa Rosa depot (similar construction) but could never think of a way to do it (short of 3d printing and I just didn't want to go down that rabbit hole). That may work for me as well. Looking forward to seeing you build your depot.

This is a little late, but I did work on this over the weekend.

NKP refrigerator van T-1702.  Trainworx 40' side-door refrigerator van, CMR decals.   TruColor Platinum mist paint on the body,  TruColor NKP Blue on the refrigerator and wheels (painting those was fun...), and TruColor Weathered Black on the tires and flaps.   Tamiya Flat overcoat.



There do not seem to be any prototype photos of NKP's 40' side-door refrigerator vans (there were only a few), so I based this on photos of the non-side-door refrigerator vans and the 35' side-door refrigerator.

Got to make a few short runs within yard limits on Milwaukee Road 760, the very first unit of this model ever produced at Beloit Wi., at the Illinois Railway Museums Diesel Days event this past weekend. Owning a Protothrottle helped with everything but the bell, once activated, the air had to be bled off to shut it off!
