I don’t have any of those artwork files, but AFAIK you are the first person to notice it, including me.
As far as I remember it was my art.

Seriously, when we were working on the RS2/RSC2 project at Kato USA there were two sets of eyes on the lettering and painting artwork. When you are working on it a fresh look will see stuff you glaze over so we two R&D guys would look over each other’s work. We both were happy with the ATSF zebra stripes scheme when one of the non-modeler guys walked by and said “Why are the stripes angled backwards?!!!’ DUH!
Developing an eye to catch most all the stuff like this, for me started in architecture school. I had an entire semester of class where we did nothing except glue precisely cut widths of black paper (pre-Chartpack) to white strathmore board in parallel and 90 degree patterns. From then on.the entire world was an out-of-kilter nightmare for me. I always include photos of the prototype on my art to help anyone looking at the to help spot any errors, even people at the factory may notice irregularities with such references.
There is the old tale of an early brass model being delivered with a pronounced line though the middle of the body. The builder had copied the fold in the blueprint!
