It's been almost 2 years, but I've picked this spicy boi back up again.

Thanks to Micro-Trains I got new truck side frames and that got things unstuck.

After ensuring their fit I have attached the front and rear handrails, and temporarily attached the side ones. So far so good.

I have also now glued the cab to the hood. There will be some putty required to fill in gaps, but it feels nice to be making progress on it again.

Are you going to reuse the SW-8/9/900/1200 walkway/steps for the SW1001? The SW1001 sits lower than the 1500 and the ends stick up above the walkway at the ends.

Helpful edit: Maybe sand the ends off the donor unit (assuming you are using one) and attach the SW1500 pilot faces which are the correct height to it instead of making the entire thing from scratch.

No. I'm keeping it simple and going with the 1500 frame. That was one of the early tradeoffs that I had to make to actually make this happen.

I applied a little body filler and decided it was time for primer.

So I slapped on its first coat of Conrail blue.





I realized there's now more to do, but I ain't mad at it.

If you did that with a brush, dilute what you used by about %50 more than what was applied, then do about 2-3 more coats in thin glazes with a wider brush. Just see it blobbing a little in a couple spots. But the thin glazes will even out the shades.
