Who would you rather... N scale GP30.

I've talked to Kato USA in person about this.  Depepnding on how the F unit shells are tooled, if they did a roof with low fans and DB grill, they could get two new F3 models.

The tooling is sufficiently flexible that they were able to do the rebuilt AT&SF Phase 1 F-3s that had high fans, large numberboards, dynamic "slots" matched with F7 side panels and grills- so the tooling must mix and match fairly easily. If they swapped low fans for high fans on that model, they would have (or at least be very close) to late F3s and "F5"s.

So far I don't think Scale Trains has not announced the enlarged cab version of the GP30 in HO of which the Burlington had as well nor the CB&Q with the smaller cab either.  No doubt they will get around to doing both.
If they were to do it in N they would be a solid choice and a nice move in the right direction era-wise.
However, in an effort to restrict my accumulation to a more reasonable level, I have set 1957 as a cut-off date for prototypes and this eliminates 2nd Generation diesels and Chinese Red Burlington entirely.   I won't be in trouble until they hit SD7 / SD9 / GP7 / GP9 in "Blackbird" Scheme or earlier units...in N Scale. 
In the meantime I have a bunch of Chinese Red power and rolling stock to get rid of to thin the collection and fund any future surprises....

I have cobbled together a few high hood GP30s but I definitely need many more for my 1975 Southern layout. I would prefer a manufacturer that had non sound options. Frankly straight dc is fine. I buy more locos and convert them myself over time. Probably puts me into the Atlas camp.

I too cast my vote for ScaleTrains.com...both GP30 and GP30B.

However, I would want ScaleTrains.com to do their magic with some GP7's, GP9's and GP9B's more than GP30's

Both Geeps would be just right for running with their GTEL Super Turbines, their Standard Turbines and their future Veranda Turbines, so a good marketing decision for either Geep and B-units.

 Maybe Atlas can tool a SD24B or ST could do them too. I seen picture UP running them in a-b-b-b-b-a or the SD24b with a turbine

Geez the line behind the ScaleTrains SD40T-2 and AC4400CW (Espee Specific) queue is getting a bit rowdy.... keep it orderly back there eh?

If I was filling a display case, I'd go with either of the two new ones.

But if I want to actually pull a train, I'd do it again with what I've already done, repower an Atlas redetailed shell with a Kato/Atlas mechanism that is dead silent, heavy, and pulls like a mule.   We're talking almost double what a Classic can do.

There's hope with the new Atlas chassis, particularly since they finally fixed the noisy universal joint problem and improved the metallurgy.  My last run Atlas GP7's were excellent, the new GP40 has the speaker adaption that will probably carry into the next GP7 run just announced.

When you get hung up on lots of specific details and ignore the obvious fact it should run, you get what you deserve.    If it is stalled, or sitting there spinning, you have time to admire the better number boards for sure.   A retooled shell would be nice, but I still get hung up on stuff like performance, parts availability, etc.  I might draw the line at Bachmann though, that last GP7 was just....sad, although it ran way better than expected.
