BLI C&O T1 2-10-4 Decoder wiring

I have a BLI HO Scale C&O T1 2-10-4 with frayed wires in the tender to loco connecting plug, I am looking at hard wiring through the loco to tender, but BLI use black for every link, is there a way to track which wire is which from the loco to the tender board, any advice welcome.

Use a multi-meter to trace wires from loco to tender circuit board. I have used this method on several of my steamers when the factory plugs and wiring were damaged.
