A Shoreline East commuter train has just arrived at New London, Connecticut, on Sunday December 5, 2021. It's been a while since I posted anything, so if I screwed it up let me know.

A slight miscalculation on my part saw us sweating on the setting sun at Wirrappa, South Australia, when in fact the train was never going to make it before the sun disappeared behind the hills. Walking away disappointed the train appeared around the corner and I thought there's still something there and made some hasty adjustments.  Not perfect, but very pleasing taken at ISO 2000 @ 1/640 sec, F6.3.
Despite redneck rumours around the globe that we are all living in a prison here Downunder, this image of the Ghan tourist train from Adelaide to Darwin, with about 200 passengers on board, was taken at the beginning of October and about 475 kilometres from home!

A testament to the quality of modern digital cameras... that shot would have been nearly impossible on 35mm film and would be difficult if not impossible on older large format cameras.

Excellent shot! Just watched a show about the Ghan interesting train for sure.

I got a tour of a portion of the Northern Central by @Ed Kapuscinski yesterday, while he was doing recon for his layout.  I got to stand in a spot where Abraham Lincoln stood during a stop at Hanover Junction, Pennsylvania, while he was en route to Gettysburg during the Civil War:

Gettysburg was in the direction of the tracks on the left, but, as you can see, those tracks don’t exist anymore.  So, you can be comforted to know that President Lincoln, in his trip to deliver the Gettysburg Address, as well as on his funeral train, rode through that parking lot on the left.  :P

Ed also gave me a tour of the Stewartstown RR, where we were at the right place and right time to catch the road’s Santa Train:

Thanks again, Ed!

It truly was my pleasure, and I'm glad you got to see why the NC is so charming.
