Magor/PC&F XIH Boxcar in HO Scale
ESM is thrilled to announce our
first HO model — the
Magor/PC&F XIH Boxcar! In 1950, Bangor and Aroostook commissioned Magor Car Company to build 300 insulated heated plug-door boxcars for potato service. An additional 150 cars were ordered from Pacific Car & Foundry in 1953. The cars were equipped with ventilators and charcoal heaters. New Haven piggybacked an order of 100 cars with the PC&F lot and factory-decorated its cars in the State of Maine scheme to save money on the purchase. The cars carried potatos in the winter and paper products in the summer.
The model is injection molded plastic with etched brass roofwalk and brake platform, and over 100 separate detail parts. Both builder variations, Magor and PC&F, are represented and utilized based on the prototype. These cars ride at the prototypically-correct height above the rails, on InterMountain ASF A-3 50-ton friction-bearing trucks fitted with low-profile darkened metal wheelsets. #4003 — New Haven, PC&F-built, circa 1953 (4 road numbers)The first two releases are the as-built “State of Maine” schemes for the two railroads, with red/white/blue sides, blue roof, and black ends. The Bangor and Aroostook cars will feature the Magor variation, while the New Haven cars will feature the PC&F variation.
The MSRP is $84.50, based on current costs, and is subject to change. The reservation period is now open and will close on January 31, 2022. The model currently is scheduled for a mid-summer 2022 release. Please place your reservations with your favorite hobby dealer.
