Kato Kobo Metra "State of Illinois" Collector Set

Was looking through the special order items at Kato and noticed this set: https://www.katousa.com/onlineshop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=157&products_id=2161&zenid=pga2ca84gq77dvierepeepppg3.

It's nice to see them continue making these one-off liveries...but really could do without the gallery cars bloating the price tag. I hope this doesn't become a trend or at least they offer the option to buy the loco individually. I love the Milwaukee and RI locos they did in the past but will hold off on buying them (if they're ever back in stock) until they're sold individually.

Yeah, but Kato's main target market wants sets.

Agreed. When I think Kato, I think sets. Even nicer when they come in the green slipcase that I can add to the collection on the shelf!

I am really tempted to get one of these sets for my daughter's N scale layout.  She's got two Kato Operation North Pole sets, but her mommy is originally from Illinois.

The sleeve designs for the last two custom Metra sets were slick, I'll agree on that.

They really should offer the option to buy these as single locos in a jewel case for future releases, like they did with all past Kobo MP36 releases. But I can see how licensing costs and the desire to make everything a train set drove this decision...but they're definitely leaving money on the table :D.
