My mother just got out, and is recovering well.  Colon cancer, but caught early, and the surgeon is sure he got it all.  She should be fine.  Colonoscopies pay off!

Hopefully not resin printer fumes.  It doesn't affect every person but I've seen a few posts on the Anycubic Facebook page indicating that when it does, it can be nasty.

There has been little to no interest in the SD30C or GP20 ECOs. They have been put on the back burner for a few months. I will try and generate some more interest then.

I received my PC/Conrail C636 shell kit yesterday! It looks great with one or two minor issues to fix before assembly, painting, and installation.
@BCOL 747 will there be instructions provided at some point?

Great news! Latest update on his site says that the pending 636 orders have all been shipped, and the RS-27s are in process, with a picture of a pre-production proof.

I'm pumped, I've wanted RS-27s for a long time. The kits should require little or no chassis modifications, just careful building skills. I need to contact @MRLX1020 to see if he might have any interest in painting 'em for me since my skills in that department are still "under development". I'd dearly love to have the trio to take to Cheyenne this May for the annual UPHS convention.

Yes I donated one of my Atlas C630's to Jeff. He is working on an instruction article between his other work. Should be out soon.

Jeff is feeling a lot better but is still working at getting his energy back. The cold front that hit BC this last week hasn't helped. A little bit of snow in Victoria made it difficult to get around. I laugh at them as I am 500 Miles north and we have five to six feet of snow and it was -44 Celsius this week. Lightweights LOL!

My M636's are done.  I ordered an RS36 so they are all waiting to ship together.  I pre-ordered an Atlas Gold GP20 some months (Dec 2018!) ago because research had showed they had the same wheelbase as a RS36 so I thought it would be a good chassis for a Shapeways shell.  Now that the Briggs RS36 is available I'll try one since I have RS11's also, but whenever the GP20 does arrive it will be interesting to see if it's possible to put the RS36 shell on the GP20 (with ESU LokSound) chassis without too much modification.

I mentioned "minor problems" in my last post. The problems I found all appeared on parts from the fuel tank raft. I noticed a step in the fuel tank casting, the fuel tank end plates, and the plow. The locomotive I plan to model (Conrail 6792, the last surviving C636) didn't have a plow so I don't need to use it, while the fuel tank issues will be hidden under the loco. The step on the inside of the fuel tank will be sanded as flat as possible without making it too weak.





Also, general question for folks who have built Briggs kits in the past: did you try to smooth out the striations (ridges from the 3D printing process) on rounded parts, and if so, how did you do it? I'd like to smooth over the C636 cab roof before I remove it from the raft and paint it. I'm still new to kit building, so apologies if this is a basic question. EDIT: I smoothed out the striations by sanding the cab roof with 400 grit then 600 grit sandpaper.

Yes, as you discovered, the rounded surfaces can be smoothed out with various grades of sandpaper.

I visited Jeff on Saturday and he brought samples of the RS-27 and RS-36 shells for me to see.  They look very good.  printing the carbodies and decks as integrated units helps to keep everything straight and square.  The RS-18s will soon be done this way.

Good!  Hopefully my log cars and bulkhead flat won't be much longer. 

Don't really NEED either, so the wait hasn't been a problem, but it's my first Briggs purchase, and I want to see what they look like!
