Good N scale slate roof material

I am about to get some samples of 3D-printed models of metal finials that the B&O used for slate roofs in the early 1900s.  These prints were developed by a guy on the B&O group to match the B&O "Standard Plan" drawings for slate roofs on stations, and towers.  Mine will be in N scale, and I want to test them out soon by making a proper N scale slate roof.  (My test roof will ultimately be put on a model for my layout.)

Looking through the options for slate roof material, I see there are 2 types: rectangular and diagonal.  I need the rectangular type.

But, I am not real enthusiastic about the options that I have found so far.

So, I am turning here for recommendations.  What do you folks use for slate roofs?

I think in N scale "slate" is just a color (unless you want a fancy shape) I would just use shingles and paint them a slate color.
