concor 2-10-2 squeal

Anyone else have a squealing issue with their concor 2-10-2 ? Mine runs great except once in awhile they pick up a squeal that is nuts, loud ! I lube it up especially around the gear off the motor in the enclosed box area with the bushings and that takes care of it. That will last for awhile but not as long as most of my locos.

You think it's just the nature of the loco, both do the same. Number three I haven't finished my conversion yet.

Can you describe the squeal?  Is it like a motor bearing squeal?   Since you get rid of it by oiling around the gear off the motor, I'd bet it's the front bearing giving you this problem.  I have not had that problem on the 2-10-2, but then I did not ever run mine for more than a few minutes here and there.  If you oil that bearing and the noise comes back after just a few hours of running (or less), the bearing is probably no good or has some contamination in it.

I agree.  I haven't had a squeal, so I can really say much about this, but I would remove the boiler and tender shell and then run it around.  See if you can find out exactly where the noise is coming from.  If it's a bearing, maybe try some LaBelle  # 102--106 or #108.  If the squeal stops you've found the cause.  It might stop for a bit and then return, NEW BEARING time.  This might take some time to sort out.

The INDIANA RAILWAY has several [5-6] of the CC 2-10-2's and once the tender electrical contact issues were fixed, the engines run like champs and will PULL.  Bachmann should make note.

High pitch squeal is pretty much guaranteed to be emanating from the fastest rotating part of the mechanism:  Motor or worm bearings (or whatever bearings are also involved in there.
