Changes in Hunter Valley train operations in the last few years has seen greater use of distributed power on many of the heavy coal trains in the area. Rated @ 4355hp Aurizon's GE-powered 5020 class weighing in at 180 tonnes are the heaviest locos in use on conventional Australian networks. On 26 April 2019, solo #5037, seen at Hermitage Rd, Belford, New South Wales, leads empty train MR279 to Moolarben mine with #5032 out of sight bringing up the rear.

MY first visit to Letchworth State Park (NY) since the new Portage Trestle was opened for service in 2019.  I didn't expect to see any trains, so therefore was not disappointed.



Later in the day, we went by the WNY&P shops in Olean, where ordinarily there are several locomotives out in front in full view from a public street and walkway.  Not today though.  <sigh>







Perhaps someday I'll bring my layout up to modern times and have Adam @mu26aeh paint up an AC6000...
