I had the honors of being the conductor on this past Saturday's Hurlock Days train. It was operated by MDDE RS3m #1201. Originally, it was supposed to be push-pull, but sister #1203 decided it would rather get shopped. We had a beautiful day with all 5 trips sold out. Here is a shot that my friend Jason Walter took. If you look closely, you can see some of me!

Nice. Foamer-free, too. One of the reasons I like to 'fan that area, but probably couldn't say the same for the 4014 at Kelso that day.

Jean... talk about memories. Despite living in the high desert for my first 21 years, my one and only encounter with a rattler in the wild was while railfanning at Jean.

I forgot to post these pictures a couple of weeks ago.  We visited 611 at Strasburg RR and were fortunate to be able to ride behind it.  I haven't seen 611 in 25 years, so this was a pleasure.  It was "unique," though, to see 611 on the rear of the train when it left the station running in reverse, tender first.  Strasburg has no way to turn the locomotives, so after a several-mile run out, they run around the train before returning to the station.  Then, the locomotive is pointed in the right direction and a little more photogenic.

Before the ride, lots of people lined the tracks to get a shot of 611 coming in on the prior excursion.  Just before it arrived, however, this Strasburg switcher No. 8618 rolled through on the main track.  Neat, huh?



Well, not so quick there.  No. 8618 was then kind enough to do a reverse move and proceed to train f*ck those of us on the north side of the tracks.



We had to move back to be able to get this shot.  Thanks, No. 8618!



Also, a group of modelers had set up a large layout that depicted the entire Strasburg RR line.  I figure that it was only selectively compressed to about 1:8.

Leaman Place and the interchange with the Amtrak line.  At this point, the locomotive is cutting off from the train and proceeding to runaround for the return to Strasburg:



But, the best shot of the day is seeing my daughter's face when she's around trains:

Big Boy coasting down Cajon today, coming into Colton on the Palmdale cutoff.
Going back up to Barstow Saturday and Sunday, with paying passengers in tow.
