With newer steam locomotives I find polishing the gears helps a lot for a binding mechanism. With old Rivarossi Locos you'd pack them with toothpaste and run the snot out of them. Followed by a thorough cleaning a light lube would make them much better runners. Might consider the same here.

Way back in my old HO days, "Pearl Drops" tooth paste was the product of choice for this method to smooth out Athearn "blue box" locos.    It was alleged to have a high content of fine grit and really seemed to work .

I should amend my statement for the plastic gears to use super fine grit wet/dry sand paper (same stuff used in high-end auto finishes in the upper hundreds and thousandths). Toothpaste only works with metal gears.... Don't want Dave dumping Colgate into a plastic truck.

Well, I've got an SD50 / SD60 truck question, so I might as well revive this old thread rather than start a new one.

Will that Atlas Dash 8-C40w trucks fit the SD50/SD60 frame?   

I want to repower a bachmann GE E60CP and the SD50/SD60 frame is the right length.
Yes, I know it's too high for the GE body - but that's fixable with a lot of grinding and reinforcing.

I haven't read the entire thread, sorry! The SD50/60 truck issue is known about but was very random, did not seem widespread. I can tell you that the SD50/60/60Es are in production now, and we ordered a good quantity of trucks for the parts department at Atlas. I don't have an exact delivery date on the parts, but it should be in the next couple of months. Dave, if you'd like to PM me I can try to help you out once we get the shipment.
