Cape Cod .... duplexes?

It's the East Coast.  We tend to try and shoe horn as many people as possible in the smallest space as possible.  You ain't seen anything until you've experience apartments in Manhattan's Lower East Side.

I'm nearing completion on this project and going back to here for reference I found some of Peteski's pix are apparently still being held for ransom on PhotoPhucket. If he reads this maybe he can transfer them to TRW so I can see them.

Actually this is not a Photobucket problem. This is a Railwire problem. The photo was attached to my post (not uploaded to the gallery), and at some point in time (probably when TRW went from http to https) the attachments got lost.  I don't know if @tom mann can fix this or not.  I have no idea what I did with that photo - I'll try to find it, or drive by that place and then post it.

Come to think of it, I might have taken  a screen capture from Google Street View. I'll see what I can come up with.

It was not a link to externally hosted image - the jpg image was attached to that post.  It seems that at some point in time, (either when you converted TRW to https, or when you moved the forum to another server)  bunch of images attached to the posts disappeared from TRW. Not only me - I recall other members mentioning this to you.

I just grabbed few screen shots from Bing street view and uploaded them to the TRW gallert, then added them to my earlier post here. All is well here now - no need to do anything.

@OldEastRR  - my earlier post is fixed - you can see the duplexes again.

Again,  that photo is lost forever (for the same reason), but if you click that link to Google street view you will see those duplexes. Basically the photo was a screen capture of the Google street view.  Or visit street view at 145 Baldwin Rd. Billerica, MA in Google Maps or Bing Maps.

Still need to add final details to the "duplex" -- the other house I built as-is from the kit. Using spare walls and door parts from 2 kits I bulked-up the 2nd house into a duplex



You can see the obvious difference in size between the two. The duplex is tilted because it sits on foundations made to fit into a slope.



I looked up paint color charts from the '40s-'50s to get the ghastly color combination for the duplex. Yes, they painted houses that color once upon a time..

The ghastly colored building looks like a duplex.    But depending on how realistic you want to make it, the duplex should be fully symmetrical. That means the stoop should have steps on both sides, and there should be 2 back  doors.  But I guess one owner could have removed his back door.

The other rear door is a side entrance (not visible). The house is several feet higher than the city sidewalk, with a steep drop-off on the end with no stairs. So I figured the builder didn't want to spend more to make 2 sets of steps.
Now, heating -- would the outside tank be one of those propane gas deals (looks like a RR tank car) or an upright oval tank for heating oil? This is the early '50s. Next would be where could I find one of those East Coast style oil tanks...

The fuel-oil tank, if it's New England, would likely be in the basement where you can't see it.

Agreed, while  nowadays in New England some houses do have an external propane tanks (usually for the stove, but it could be for heating fuel too), it is fairly rare.  I agree with George that if homes are not heated by natural gas (piped underground), the were heated using heating oil (basically Diesel fuel).  That is true now, and even more common in the 50's and 60's when petroleum products were dirt cheap.  Most hoses at that time were oil heated with tanks in basements (like my house is).

I would think that the garbage cans would be neat the kitchen (back door?), or at the curb if you are modeling a trash pickup day.
