UP has been building yard capacity for several years in out-of-the-way locations. F'rinstance, we're in the middle of nowhere at the far eastern reach of UP's system, and have an new "regional intermodal" facility under construction 15 miles away. Go figure.

There's some investor-relations puffery at play here. That's a small yard as these go and the architectural overview indicates a flat yard, so there must be techno-magic tricks to claim that capacity. As far as the cost, that has to be not adjusted for inflation in the comparison... or the real estate cost was through the roof. Probably both. We had to miss the shareholder's meeting last month, which is likely what that vid was prepared for.
